On the outside Scarlett and Tucker are polar opposites. One thriving in the spotlight and one invisible in the shadows, but what the reader learns as the book continues is that they're more alike than anyone would've thought. Tucker opens up to Scarlett and while she slowly opens up to them their relationship then progresses quickly. While it wasn't insta-love it moved really fast for me once it got going. Scarlett moves from dating no one to talks of moving in together in what I felt was a very short amount of time.
Scarlett's dreams are ambitious and she's goal motivated to get somewhere in life, she questions Tucker's future and dreams and makes him think about what he wants from life. He's so good at faking happiness and Scarlett was great for him (and he was great for her). They didn't necessarily change one another but helped each other be the best that they could be.
As an anxiety ridden math nerd myself I could completely relate to Scarlett's moments of weakness, and I was extremely proud of the way she handled several situations (like when she's supposed to tutor Tucker and he's late). They compliment each other and Denise Grover Swank did a great job building on their characters and then building off of the other. They teach each other about loving another person, accepting that you can't change your past, and focusing on the road ahead.
After Math is a story about a roller coaster romance between a boy who feels guilty about his past and a girl trying to overcome hers. It's inspirational, sad, and easy to get into and lost in. Any fan of the new adult genre will enjoy the relationship between Scarlett and Tucker and appreciate the art of the heartbreak and chaos that ensue in their wake. It's a twisty, secretive, and a hard to put down read that I recommend to fans of Monica Murphy, Tammara Webber, Nicole Williams and Jamie McGuire.
